Financial Reporting

In class today, we analyzed Financial Reporting for McDonalds. I learned for a global corporate company, the employees must review sales and revenues for each country. Since the currency and values varies between nation, there is a system in place called constant currency, which seems complicated to calculate and understand on such a large scale.

I still have questions on how constant currency is determined and how accurate it is compared to standard valuing. The financial reports we analyzed were based off of second quarter and I'm cofused on what business quarters are, and why they are used.

3-2-1 Ted Talk

In the Ted talk, by "Tony Fadell: The first secret of design is ... noticing" the speaker was on the topic of design and technology as well as everyday life. The first example he touched upon, was the stickers placed on fruit. These sticky items make it easier to check out of grocery stores, but also pose a problem of removing the sticker before consumption. Another example Facell talked about was driving and how at first every single detail was noticeable but then as it became second nature humans habituated. Fadell also talked about comedians how they make jokes but remembering the little things that happen daily that we forget. Things like not being able to set the shower temperature but we habituate those details that is funny when we hear them back.

A piece of technology I remember having that was not planned out well was a children's video game system. It required so many extra parts and functions that it was never fun for a kid to use. Another product that wasn’t planned well was a type of invisible ink that came in the bottle as a blue color, so when the ink dried it wasn’t very visible because there was an obvious stain on the paper.

I see design planned well for a product when multiple prototypes are made and tested by real consumers. When the feedback and suggestions are taken, I feel as if the design is planned out well.

"Generation Like"

Generation X or people born around the are 2000 have been reffered to as "Generation Like" by Frontline. First, I did not know that my generation was being labeled as "Generation Like". Considering most of our lives have been involved in Social Media it makes sense. Second, I did not realize how many people Tweet about their favorite band, show, movie, ect. Along that same line, I did not know that by Tweeting about a particular media such as a movie you are making them money through "free" marketing. I would like to know more about how much money is being made through "free" marketing.

Scavenger Hunt

In a Business Scavenger Hunt, having a partner was very helpful. Since we were given the entire outside to find the items on the list it was slightly over whelming. Thanks to multiple partners I had many minds to work with and creatively find the objects.

When trying to find the items on the list, a few minor problems occurred. This is similar to life because there were a few bumps in the road but we overcame the m by working  together and taking them out. For example, we were confused on an object to find but by discussing it out loud we quickly came to a resolution.
